Master of Veterinary Theriogenology (MvetTHERIO)

Overview

Philosophy

The diminishing land size and prevailing climate change necessitates an improvement in reproductive management strategies as well as availing appropriate animals that are able to withstand these changes. Reproductive wastage constitutes a large part of potential genetic loss in animals worldwide. Reproductive management strategies and reproducing animals with desirable traits can only be successful by having graduates that pursue advanced Theriogenology, which will enable them to carry out relevant research.  Graduates from this course will be equipped with the necessary skills to tackle challenges facing the animal industry.

Rationale

There is increasing national and regional demand for specialized reproductive interventions and the need for developing a pool of specialized Theriogenologists who can conduct training in universities as well as carry out research. This programme will meet this need by providing the graduates with specialized knowledge and competencies in Theriogenology with ability to perform reproductive techniques, conduct scientific research, write scientific publications/reports and teach Theriogenology.

The objectives of the programme are to:

  1. Provide the candidate with post-BVM training leading to a Masters of Theriogenology degree.
  2. Enable candidate to develop proficiency in clinical aspects of Theriogenology.
  3. Enable candidate to develop proficiency in academic and scientific aspects of Theriogenology.
  4. Enhance the expertise of the candidate in a specialized area of Theriogenology.
