Brief History

The department of clinical studies is one of the  departments of the five Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and is located within the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Kabete.The Department hosts a   Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB)-licensed Veterinary Teaching and  Referral Hospital, which is made up of two main service clinics: the Large Animal and the Small Animal units. The hospital offers clinical services as well as diagnostic services including laboratory diagnosis as well as X-ray and Ultrasound imaging. The departmental faculty current number is 26 and 2 clinicians all with professional expertise in areas of animal population health through ambulatory services, internal medicine, clinical laboratory diagnoses, anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery and theriogenology including obstetrics, gynaecology, Andrology, fertility and breeding management. These are supported by 7 Technologists, 2 theatre assistants, one procurement officer, One senior administrative assistant, one secretary and 11 support staff.  The core function of the department is to educate and train veterinary surgeons, conduct research and provide clinical services. The Department is divided into four major sections namely: Medicine, Surgery, Theriogenology and Wildlife.
