UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI RESEARCH WEEK 2020

 This years Research week is the 3rd Annual event hosted by the University of Nairobi in October each year and it will be on October 12-16, 2020. The week features over ten different conferences covering a diverse range of academic disciplines, one of which is bound to meet your interest and area of expertise. 

The conferences provide a forum to enable you to present your work, engage with your colleagues, and learn about the latest developments in your field. 

2019 NOVEL CORONA VIRUS AND OTHER EMERGING INFECTIOUS DISEASES

Guest lecture on Corona Virus (COVID-19) and other Emerging Infectious Diseases was delivered to the 4th and 5th year veterinary students and staff on March 12, 2020 from 8.00-10.00 am in the Department of Clinical Studies. The guest lecturers were Dr. Andrew Thaiyah who is the USAID Global Health Security Advisor, Kenya; and Dr. J. M. Kamau of Department of Biochemistry, University of Nairobi and who has a lot of experience in molecular research.

DONATION OF SURGICAL ITEMS BY ATLANTIC VETERINARY COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, CANADA.

Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island in Canada, donated a few assorted surgical usable items and a few surgical instruments that would be used to assemble a surgical set. This is through the continued research collaboration that has benefited some of our staff by pursuing their PhD programmes through coursework training in Canada and data collection locally in Kenya.

PIG INDUSTRY: AN OVERVIEW AND OUTLOOK

The Guest Lecturer was DR. SHARON TSIGADI, GENERAL MANAGER FARMER’S CHOICE – ROSEMARK DIVISION.  The overview focused on optimal conditions for pig production, superior genetics and artificial insemination (A.I). The model that exemplified these areas of presentation was Farmer’s Choice pig production division (The Rosemark) with examples of the contract farmers and other farming communities. This presentation was extremely eye-opening and informative for both students and academic staff present.

BASIC NUTRITION IN DOGS AND CATS

GUEST LECTURES on “BASIC NUTRITION IN DOGS AND CATS” and on “PERSONAL BRANDING” were held on Thursday 23, 2020 in the Department of Clinical Studies. The guests were veterinarians DR. JEANNE MAKUGU, Scientific Communications Manager and DR. COLLINS PAPA OSIYA, National Sales and Marketing Manager, both from Ultravetis and Royal Canin.
