PIG INDUSTRY: AN OVERVIEW AND OUTLOOK

GUEST LECTURE ON “PIG INDUSTRY: AN OVERVIEW AND OUTLOOK”

The Guest Lecturer was DR. SHARON TSIGADI, GENERAL MANAGER FARMER’S CHOICE – ROSEMARK DIVISION.  The overview focused on optimal conditions for pig production, superior genetics and artificial insemination (A.I). The model that exemplified these areas of presentation was Farmer’s Choice pig production division (The Rosemark) with examples of the contract farmers and other farming communities. This presentation was extremely eye-opening and informative for both students and academic staff present. It is amazing how much needs to be emphasized on optimal conditions for pig production, selection of genetic traits and their improvement through crossing to obtain pigs that are appropriate for slaughterline. Emphasis on A.I for controlled reproduction was made. For further details, the Chairman of the Department of Clinical Studies has the whole power point presentation.
