Large Animal Medicine


 

Description

Large Animal Medicine unit conducts research and teaching of several undergraduate and graduate programmes. The unit also serves the Large Animal Clinic, Ambulatory Clinic and Extension services; University of Nairobi where several cases are treated for needy patients brought to the clinic directly or referred by clinicians around the country. The team of Large animal doctors is supported by veterinary nurses and animal attendants in carrying out their work.

Dr. Thaiyah is a senior lecturer specialising in clinical epidemiology and a specialist on food animal diseases. He has researched widely on toxicology and has published widely in his area of speciality. He has established very strong public – private partnerships with Industry in Kenya involving Government ministries, research institutions, private companies and international organizations. PROF. MULEI CHARLES MATIKU

PhD in Farm Animal Medicine and Production,Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) University of Nairobi.

Prof Mulei is a professor of Farm Animal Medicine specialising in clinical Veterinary Medicine, Animal Health Management (Herd health) and, Veterinary Clinical Pathology and Chemistry. PROF. NJENGA MUNENE JOHN

Prof. Njenga is an associate professor in clinical veterinary medicine specializing in protozoology. He has special interest in finding solutions to zoonoses among the low income people in urban areas where he has been a principal investigator in many projects.

Dr. Gakuya is a Senior lecturer in Internal Medicine, with vast experience in Food animal medicine, Ambulatory clinics, Food Animal production management, Ethno-veterinary medicine and Research in medicinal plant products. Dr. Kirui specialises in Veterinary Population medicine and animal welfare (Equine and camels). He has a wide experience in livelihood support projects, clinical and emergency medicine, and farm/working animal welfare assessment studies. He has worked in many projects as research assistant and project co-ordinator with research interests in Population Veterinary Medicine studies aimed at improving animal welfare, animal health and productivity under livestock based livelihood systems for the attainment of one health.
